National Small Business Week kicked off Monday with the start of the National Small Business Week Virtual Summit co-sponsored by the federal Small Business Association.
In a proclamation declaring National Small Business Week, President Joe Biden said, “To help ensure that small businesses in every community benefit from the Build Back Better agenda’s landmark investments in our infrastructure, we are strengthening our contracting programs for underserved small businesses. As part of this effort, I announced a government-wide goal to grow Federal contracting with small, disadvantaged businesses by 50 percent, translating into an additional $100 billion over 5 years. By ensuring that more disadvantaged small businesses can compete for and win federal contracts, we can boost job opportunities and economic prosperity in every corner of America.”
As federal government contracting with small business increases, those businesses will be looking to spend money in turn to grow.
There are over 30 million small to mid-sized businesses in the United States, ranging in size from just a handful of workers to 500 or more employees, employing some 60 million Americans overall.
Many are owner-run or “Main Street” businesses, but millions more are suppliers to other businesses (B2B) or fast-growing innovation-driven businesses.
